Skyway Center SQL

San Carlos, CA

Skyway Center is an innovative mixed-use aviation facility located in the heart of Silicon Valley at San Carlos Airport. The location is perfectly suited for aircraft tenants that do fit the model of nearby SFO, Hayward or San Jose Airports and want to be close to their operations on the Peninsula. The project includes two flanking hangar groups with a center taxi lane and a two-story office and private lounge. The office and lounge have direct landside access along the frontage road to US-101, with the first floor lounge providing a direct connection to the internal taxi lane. Each of the hangar groups includes individual hangars of varying sizes to allow for the requirements of each tenant. The exterior design is modern R+D architecture, paying homage to the former industrial roots of the area. Saw-tooth roof forms soar over the volume hangar spaces with abundant use of polycarbonate panels for interior daylighting. This same theme is carried out in the office and private lounge building and enhanced with aluminum composite and high-pressure laminate panels in a warm wood finish. The overall design results in the appearance of floating roof planes over the soft interior glow of the hangar and support spaces within.
