This project is an extensive retrofit of an existing 40-year old, 180,000 s.f. concrete tilt-up building. The existing manufacturing building is to be converted into a 193,000 s.f. Materials Recovery and Transfer Facility with administrative offices, employee support areas, household hazardous waste, buy-back facility, maintenance area, and load-out tunnel. The complete roof of the existing structure is to be removed and replaced, part of which will clear a span of 315' to accommodate operational requirements.
One of the unique challenges of the project is the construction of a 28' wide load-out tunnel below the existing concrete tilt-up building. The tunnel is supported by drilled piers to facilitate the construction schedule, and provide a barrier against the high water table.
Site improvements include scales, scalehouses, site circulation, and loading docks.
