Updated Master Plan for City of Redding Transfer Station and MRF Awarded

Press Release July 20, 2022

San Carlos, CA (July 20, 2022) JRMA (J. R. Miller & Associates), a leading architectural, engineering, and planning firm specializing in the design of solid waste and recycling transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), and anaerobic digestion/biogas plants (AD), is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a contract by the City of Redding, CA to update its master plan for its existing transfer station and MRF facility located at 2255 Abernathy Lane in Redding.

The updated master plan will address a number of challenges including but not limited to: how to handle increased tonnage and vehicle traffic, facility space constraints, aging equipment, rising operating costs, and state mandates (i.e., SB 1383) requiring the reduction of disposed organics by 75% in January 2025. The master plan will also result in an updated 10-year capital improvement plan (CIP) and cost schedule for recommended facility improvements. JRMA previously completed a master plan for the facility in 2011.

JRMA will provide all contract management and quality control for the project, review the prior and current inventory of existing conditions, and identify specific needs and future operational changes required at the facility. With an updated inventory of needs and opportunities for improvements, JRMA will then develop and evaluate a series of alternatives and make final recommendations for facility improvements. Recommended improvements will be phased to mitigate impacts to current operations. 3-D renderings will be provided for ultimate site buildout.
