JRMA Selected as Owner’s Engineer for Sustainable Energy Plant

Press Release August 18, 2022

Brea, CA (August 18, 2022) JRMA (J. R. Miller & Associates), a leading architectural, engineering, and planning firm specializing in the design of solid waste and recycling transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), and anaerobic digestion/biogas plants (AD), is pleased to announce we have been selected as Owner’s Engineer by Ductor (see https://www.ductor.com/) for their first U.S. sustainable energy plant to be built on a site in Ohio. As the Owner’s Engineer, JRMA will be responsible for conceptual design and process integration. Additional responsibilities will include ongoing technical support during final design and construction.

Ductor’s proprietary system is an effective solution for processing high nitrogen wastes. Nitrogen is removed in a pre-fermentation phase before the biogas process to prevent nitrogen inhibition in the main fermenter. The recovered nitrogen is made into high-value fertilizer, and the nitrogen-reduced slurry can then be fermented in a state-of-the-art anaerobic digester. The digestate is upgraded to solid fertilizer or soil amendments. Ductor’s process reforms nitrogen recovery with a biological approach, optimizing biogas production's operational, economic, and ecological performance. This patented process is a significant advancement in biogas technology and a safe, responsible, and economical solution to valorizing waste streams and their nutrients from agriculture and returning them as energy and valuable input materials to farms in the form of fertilizers.

JRMA is pleased to support Ductor on this significant project, another example of our commitment to supporting a circular economy in the United States.
