Solid Waste

North Bay Corporation Center for the Environment
Santa Rosa, CA

Preparation of an Operational Analysis and Master Plan for a multiple site facility. North Bay Corporation recently purchased a site adjacent to their solid waste hauling and processing facility which included administrative offices, vehicle maintenance facility, bin repair, an 8,000 TPM single-stream MRF, recyclable drop-off/buy-back center, and parking for collection vehicles.

The goal of the consulting and design services was to analyze the operations of the newly purchased site and provide recommendations for consolidating the two operations in the most effective manner. These recommendations included considerations for adding a 125,000 s.f. mixed commercial Materials Recovery Facility and greatly expanding North Bay’s C&D processing capabilities. The expanded transfer station will occupy approximately 110,500 s.f.

An important goal for the facility is to achieve a LEED Silver rating through the use of alternative 'green' energy sources, recycled building materials, and a host of other features. It will also contain an educational center and viewing gallery where visitors can learn about sustainability and view the recycling process in action.
