AVJET Corporation has commenced construction on the first LEED certified private hangar in the nation. The 63,653 s.f. hangar facility is located on a 2.81-acre site at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. The facility will include a 51,138 s.f. hangar area and an attached two-story 12,515 s.f. office.
Integrated throughout the facility are “green building” design elements such as photovoltaic power, recycled content material, and resource efficient systems that assist in achieving the Silver LEED Rating goal for the project. This project will also be the first hangar in the nation to use an innovative water mist fire suppression system. This system uses substantially less water than a conventional system and suppresses a fire without the use of hazardous chemicals associated with a foam system. The City of Burbank Fire Department has worked closely with the project team on this system in the hopes that it will provide a model for future hangar development.
